10
Things Fascia Companies DO NOT Want You To Know |
| |
1. Cheaper profiles
will discolour and fade as they come into direct contact with
the sun’s uv rays.
We at C & G Cladding use quality profiles to carry out our
installations, we use only Swish profiles. Swish is a manufacturer
who is as passionate about getting the product right as we are.
Cheap plastics have too much chalk or lead in them which reacts
badly to the suns rays and over a short period of time –
which means they WILL DISCOLOUR & FADE!!
2. Beware of ribbed “hollow” soffits.
Some manufacturers produce a cheaper hollow soffit board which,
from the outside, looks adequate. The problem is that the board
is hollow and causes major condensation. Most companies over
cap the soffit boards and capping with a board that condensates
will lead to hidden rot issues.
3. Do not cover existing aged/weathered timber boards.
The main reason for having a roofline refurbishment done is
that homes in the UK are at least 50 years old and in need of
maintenance. That means 50 year old fascia boards, 50 year old
soffits, barge boards and guttering. We strongly believe that
the only true way to achieve a maintenance free roofline is
by REPLACING all your existing fascia boards, barge boards,
soffits and guttering with new PVCu boards. However, the vast
majority of installation companies will cover the existing boards,
regardless of the original condition. This creates an “out
of sight – out of mind” mentality. Leaving the boards
behind to deteriorate at a much higher rate.
4. Most soffit boards are chrysotile white asbestos
– which needs to be disposed of in the correct manner
and have the appropriate licence.
The soffit board (horizontal board that connects the fascia
to the house wall) is more often than not asbestos. Asbestos
is a hazardous substance that cannot be removed or disposed
of without having the correct licence.
5. Companies will either charge an additional premium
after the job has been carried out or fly tip the asbestos.
C & G Cladding have the appropriate licence to remove and
dispose of asbestos in the correct manner. Most other firms
will remove the asbestos incorrectly (creating potentially dangerous
dust particles) and do one of either two things. The first being
to ask the customer for an additional amount of money so they
can dispose of accordingly or FLY TIP the waste wherever they
see fit – causing untold problems to the environment.
6. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure
the company they employ have the appropriate public and product
liability insurance.
When employing someone to work on your property it is essential
you check if they have public and product liability insurance.
If not then the person employed, if they have an a, can claim
on the householders insurance.
7. A guarantee should be a genuine 10 year insurance backed
guarantee NOT a 25 year worthless warranty.
8. When getting to the
price with a customer “Managers Discounts”, “Show
Home Discounts” don’t exist – the rep will
know his bottom line price!
9. Finance packages are
a way for the Sales rep to earn more commission.
10. Most companies
employ sub-contract labour to carry out their installations. |
